Misner Dam Pony Truss Bridge

Misner Dam Pony Truss Bridge

In early 1900s, the steel section of Misner Dam pony truss bridge was installed as a roadway crossing the dam. When the dam failed, the bridge was removed in the fall of 1918 and set aside while a new dam was constructed. The bridge was then replaced as part of the new dam during the following winter. Over the years, many parents and grandparents took their children and grandchildren to fish from the pony truss bridge. As it became a popular locale for fishermen, many fond memories developed.

In 2019, when Norfolk County issued the tender to replace the Misner Dam to Bronte Construction, the Association learned that the pony truss bridge was slated for demolition. Through discussions with Bronte Construction, the Association was able to take possession of this historic bridge. One of the Association’s future projects is to raise sufficient funds so that the bridge can be repaired and installed in a public waterfront area for the community to enjoy.
